How to Throw a Successful Party While Quarantined

With most states under lockdown, many of us are now celebrating our special days at home. So, what does this look like? Here’s how to throw the best party you can while under stay at home or shelter in place orders.

Obviously, your home is going to be the party location. Think about the ideal location for your computer or smartphone. You should have a steady surface, room to stash any video call goodies, and maybe even a ring light if you want to get fancy. Are you near a power source or do you have backup batteries? Make sure you won’t have technical difficulties!

Now, for the guest list. The perfect guest list is more important than ever! If you’re having a video call party, here’s a bit of advice for you: keep that guest list small. You don’t want people constantly talking over each other. It’s tempting to invite everyone you know but don’t do it!

If you just can’t choose, consider hosting more than one party. This way, you get to spend time with everyone in a special way – and you can mix it up with your friends and important people. I recommend you invite no more than 7 or 8 people to your virtual party. Also, try not to mix your different social groups. No one likes inside jokes they can’t relate to!

Even though you’re the only one who might truly be able to enjoy them, spruce up your video call space with some fun decorations. Hosting a virtual dinner party? Turn on a couple of flameless candles and set the table. With some planning, you could even send your friends the same mini table decor.

Since you aren’t leaving your home, we know, sweatpants are totally fine. Then again, how many opportunities do you have to get dressed up right now? Go big. Accessorize! But, you know, since nobody is going to see your bottom half, rock those UGG slippers. You can even suggest a theme to your virtual guests!

Music can make or break any occasion and a video call is no different. Zoom allows one person to play virtual DJ and stream it through all the attendees’ computers.

And last, but certainly not least, what’s any party without drinks and snacks?
